Image created using just Vue 6, no other postwork other than color correction and minor fog enhancements.

Camera was set to 13 mm for more vertical FOV and dramatic effect, which also means heavy distortion on the planet's sphericity.

Scene uses a spectral atmosphere with spectral cloud layers and lower metaclouds for simulating the sandstorm

Terrain is composed of two procedurals, created by both sculpting and functions computing.

Render was done with GI

Please take into consideration the software used when posting critique!

Here's the first illustration of 2008
The concept behind the work is the metaphor of Light vs Darkness, and I tried to illustrate it with a ‘double pair’ – the sunset versus the upcoming night, but also the tranquil, green land versus the scary, rough mountains. The image was created using Matte Painting techniques only; I hope you’ll like it!
PS:Also done for the upcoming Expose 6
A sudden alien invasion takes us by surprise as their way to attack is not a common one. Meteors are actually alien pods and are coming from different directions at director's request.

All fire effects are hand painted;
The city reflects a dystopian near future where water level has risen all over the world.

When I've started this image I didn't really had a definite plan, but I knew what I was after.

I've began from a couple of photos I shot from airplane; they were in very bad shape and you can still see some of the noise, but no matter, that adds to photorealism, right?
It was quite a work to recolor and relight them and make them work, cause they were all flat and ugly.

After I've build my basic 'ground' I've started to work on the city; Bad idea not to start with a concept art ! When the city was done I was faced with a serious problem : the left side was too empty. Dozens of versions followed and, fortunately, I've solved this issue
Sky, atmosphere, background, midground are all modeled and rendered in it.

Spectral atmosphere is a nice surprise, and the atmosphere can now produce realistic renders. To get the right atmosphere I simulated the whole day, animating the clouds around until I got what I want.

Postwork includes adding that bottom river and it's bed.

I enjoyed a lot doing this personal project and had a lot of fun combining all possible media/techniques like 3D, painting or photomanip into this dualistic image with a very special mood for me;

By contrasting the beauty of scene elements with the moment of the day (night), I've tried to create a dualistic style and message: House of Dreams further underlines the meaning: is it a nice peaceful mansion under a beautiful moonlight...Or is it more? For things are not always what they seem....
While the subject of this image might not seem interesting, it's important to note that it's done entirely (rendered also) in Vue; Yes, you can do with it more than generic landscape. While it doesn't have the accuracy of other packages when it comes to lightning, you can still do nice effects with it.
This is an illustration done for King of Houston universe using matte painting techniques, PS and a wacom tablet. Much of the detail is hand painted or using custom brushes.
The idea was to recreate that mystical mood, seen in the forests from north Japan, with no human trace (wild).

Below are my thoughts about this image, don't read them if you want to read the image in your own way

*SPOILER* I conceived the cave as a metaphor for the constant struggle within ourselves. Like the cave, life is a true labyrinth, as we search&fight our way towards the light....sometimes you loose yourself and can't find the way any longer. Once in a while you may find a crack in the wall, from which you can see the light; Being chased by the fires from depths (inner demons) you find a sanctuary there. But will you just stand there or try to climb up? For the light won't last too long....*ENDOFSPOILER*
